Ada Harris is a widowed cleaner, living the most ordinary of lives in 1950s London. When she happens upon a Dior dress at one of her client’s houses, she becomes enamoured with the luxurious gown and resolves to have one of her own. After receiving a back-dated war widow’s pension she sets off for Paris, but finds her down to earth ways clashing with the airs and graces of the world of couture.
